5 Positive Aspects of a Wedding Elopement Abroad

5 Positive Aspects of a Wedding Elopement Abroad

The choice of a wedding elopement abroad

A wedding elopement abroad.. have you ever thought about it for your own wedding?

First of all: what is an elopement? It is a very quick wedding with only the presence of the bride, groom and a couple of witnesses (if strictly necessary).

Once it was made in secret, giving the news to the families only afterwards, but nowadays it is not anymore a forced choice in case of  a hindered union, so it is not so unusual to tell relatives and friends everything in advance, even sending beautiful cards to spread the news!

Obviously it is quite an “extreme” option that has some negative aspects (not sharing your wedding day with your family is the principal one, of course), but couples are not all the same, each one has its priorities, needs and tastes, so you should not feel compelled to have a traditional wedding only because “that’s the way things must be done”.

If you feel that a wedding abroad, just the two of you, might be an option to consider, here are five “pros” that might help you decide.

The pros of a wedding elopement abroad

1. Less expenses

Let’s start from a very materialistic point of view!  Yes, it might not be very romantic, but there is no doubt that this sort of wedding is much more economical than a traditional one. You don’t have to calculate the costs of save-the-dates and invitations, of the reception (which is always the most expensive element), and of all the dozens of big and small details that the presence (even if so appreciated) of guests requires.

2. Less preparations

Consequently, the absence of guests relieves you from many thoughts connected to the event planning, especially if you want a wedding abroad: no problems about transports, logistics, hotel accommodations, but also no problems about guests lists, seating plans and the those very common doubts such as “do we want to include children or not?” or “should we invite aunt Emma? we haven’t heard from her for ages!”.

The only true preparations you need is all the necessary paperwork in case of a civil wedding, but if you opt for a symbolic ceremony, you really need very short time to arrange everything!

3. No limits to your choices

Sometimes you have to make some compromises to conciliate your desires with other people’s needs. Perhaps you would have to give up the idea of getting married in the venue of your dreams because it is too little for all the guests you should invite, or too far, or unsuitable for children and so on.

4. Special time for the two of you

If you don’t have to think about all these aspects of wedding planning, you can concentrate on your own relationship, on what you want to do, you can plan a marvellous trip on that place abroad that you really wanted to visit and where you are going to get married, celebrate your very intimate wedding with the most romantic candle-lit dinner.

5. You have one reason for further celebrations!

Even if you have chosen to have an elopement abroad, it doesn’t mean that you can’t celebrate your wedding with your families and friends too!

If you want you can have a big party with all your dear ones once you’ve come back, to show them that you are happy to have them with you.
