The dream of a civil wedding in a castle

Little girls often dream of marrying a prince and then living happily ever after in a beautiful castle, don’t they?

We all know this seldom happens in real life, of course, but here in Apulia is not so difficult to make that dream come true… well, at least a part of it!

Some of the dozens of castles here in Apulia, heritage of the long and rich history of this region, are actually available for the celebration of civil weddings, and that is not something that can be taken for granted in Italy, as municipal administrations are not always inclined to give the specific permission to celebrate the civil rite outside the townhall premises.

Here we have selected 5 of these wonderful castles, that you will surely appreciate, because are all places full that particular charm given by centuries of history, art, great events and great personalities.

5 amazing options in Apulia for the couples who want a civil wedding in a castle

1. Norman – Swabian Castle of Sannicandro di Bari

This is a very ancient castle, it was built by the Byzantines before the year 1000 as a defense against the Saracens. In the following centuries it was deeply modified in its structure by the Normans and then during the reign of the Emperor Frederick II. Now it is pefectly restored and its rooms and court can be a wonderful setting for a wedding ceremony.

This splendid castle was built in the 16th century by the emperor Charles V on the little promontory of the town of Monopoli called Punta Pinna. This position right on the sea gives the castle an incredible charm!

It is often used as a seat for cultural events; civil wedding can take place in the so called “sala della rivolta”.

This castle, together with the castle of Sannicandro, is also very famous for the mysterious legends connected to them! Do you want to know what these legends say? Read this post of ours about the mysterious places in Apulia!

Now restored and used for many cultural events, it can also be requested for civil ceremonies, especially for the more intimate ones, due to the limited space available.

Picture yourself this wonderful scene: an intimate ceremony on the top of the tower, surrounded by your dearest ones, with a breath-taking 360° view on the sea! A real dream!!!
